About Center for Civil Liberties

The Centre for Civil Liberties (CCL) is a leading Ukrainian human rights organisation founded in 2007 in Kyiv. Its mission is to protect human rights, develop democracy, and educate society on legal issues.

Since the outbreak of war in 2014, the CGS has focused on documenting human rights violations and war crimes, especially in the occupied territories. Following Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the organisation has become one of the key centres collecting evidence of crimes against civilians. This material is forwarded to international judicial bodies.

The CCL actively promotes the idea of creating an international tribunal to condemn Russian aggression, and also advocates for the reform of global mechanisms for the protection of human rights.

In 2022, the organization received the Nobel Peace Prize for its contribution to the struggle for freedom, democracy and human rights. Its leader, Alexandra Matviychuk, actively advocates on the international stage, defending the rights of citizens and the need for global solidarity.
